What We Believe

BE A DISCIPLE, MAKE A DISCIPLE

At Hills Church our emphasis is discipleship. This does not mean that we are perfect at it, it means that we are working at it. Our desire is to take the words of Jesus seriously when he said “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the, Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 29:18-20)

A disciple is a follower of Jesus. The word implies someone who acts like, sounds like and lives like their master. To the best of our ability our church is structured around this overarching theme. Our desire is to help you discover what it means to be in a relationship with God and then what it means to live like a disciple of Jesus in every aspect of your life. Our church is more like a boot camp than a Sunday club. It is a place where you will be challenged to walk the walk. We want to help train you to run the race well.

To this end we focus on values rather than a particular look and feel for a church. These values are like the training regime for any team. While the training is not the game it prepares you for the game and helps you play the game well.

Doctrinal Summary

  • We believe in God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus Christ the Son suffered in our place on the cross, that he died but rose again, that he now sits at the Father’s right hand until he returns to judge all people at the last day.
  • We believe in the Holy Scriptures as the inspired and inerrant Word of God.
  • We believe that by the grace of God every person has the ability and responsibility to choose between right and wrong, and that those who repent of their sin and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ are justified by faith.
  • We believe that God not only counts believers as righteous, but that he makes them righteous, freeing them of sin’s dominion at conversion, purifying their hearts by faith and perfecting them in love at entire sanctification, and providing for their growth in grace at every stage of their spiritual life, enabling them through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit to live a victorious life.
